In the 1980s and ’90s, Kevin Matthews was one of Chicago’s most famous radio voices, known for his impressions, pranks and comedy. Then multiple sclerosis took the microphone away. Outside a flower shop he found a statue of the Virgin Mary cracked in half beside a dumpster. He had her pieced back together but kept every chip and scar, and in rebuilding her, he began to rebuild his life. The statue has since been blessed by Pope Leo XIV.
